Yes, NLIS tags are compulsory. The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) ensures lifetime movements of cattle, sheep, pigs, and goats can be identified and recorded within Australia.

There are specific NLIS requirements when moving different types of livestock in Queensland. All cattle, sheep, pigs and goats must be fitted with an approved NLIS device when moving between properties identified with a different PIC.

NLIS devices are permanent devices that must not be removed once fitted and will remain for the lifetime of that animal. If a device is lost, the animal must be retagged with an approved NLIS device prior to moving off the property.

Branding is compulsory for cattle and pigs when they are offered for sale in Queensland. The Moreton Prime Beef Sales are held weekly on each Tuesday with selling commencing at 8am. Cattle sold by weight must be in by 7pm the night before the sale and open auction cattle in by 7am day of sale. Please ensure the latest version of NVD’s are completed correctly including brands and addresses with contact details.

Cattle prices are sent via email at the completion of the sale. Agents may also phone through your prices upon request.

Payments are made to all vendors either via cheque or direct deposit. All cheque payments are mailed 13 days post sale and EFT payments are made 15 days post sale.

Buyers at the Moreton Saleyards are required to make payment for cattle purchased on the day of the sale. If you are a new buyer or need to update your details you will need fill out a buyer’s advice form which can be found in the “New Clients” tab.
